Abell shines in rematch

"Minnesota Ice" made a clear statement Saturday night that his first fight with Arron Lyons (11-9, 8 KOs) was a complete fluke. Abell outclassed Lyons (11-9, 8 KOs) with speed, power, and movement over the first few rounds leaving Lyons battered and bleeding against the ropes . In the fourth round referee Mark Nelson stopped the fight as excess blood began to flow from a cut that was over Lyons left eye. Nelson signaled for the Dr. Sheldon Seagal to evaluate the cut and informed all judges that the cut was caused by a punch. The fight was then called at :52 seconds of the fourth round when both the corner of Lyons and the Dr. Seagal agreed that the Lyons could not continue with the bout. " I was staying behind my jab landing doubles and triples to his face. I could see that every time they landed his eyes were swelling and cutting more and more!" - said Joey Abell. " I didn't except to see that much boxing and movement from Joey. He is a completely different fighter then the guy I fought in Philly and his power was like nobody I have ever faced before!" -said Lyons.

Vicente Alfaro (4-0, 1 KOs) kept his unbeaten record unblemished with a second round stoppage over Brad Patraw (6-3, 4 KOs). Both fighters came out swinging for the fences, making for exciting toe to toe action. Alfaro's pressuring style earned him two standing 8 counts and a knockdown before referee Gary Miezwa called a halt to the action at 2:06 of the seconds round, declaring Alfaro the winner.

Exciting young prospect Gavin Quinn (1-0) won an exciting battle over Ryan Stock (0-3) in a four round bout. All scores were unanimous for Quinn.

Jose Hilario (3-0, 3 KOs) blow throw Mathew Brogan (0-1) at :52 seconds of the first round.

Travis Perzynski (1-1, 1 KOs) upset Bobby Butters (0-1) a solid straight right hand and a flurry of unanswered punches landed and forced Referee Gary Miezwa to stop the bout at 1:58 seconds of the first round.

Marty Lindquist stalked Frankie Quinn with looping powershots, putting Quinn down twice on his way to a first round TKO victory

Locals fall in Hyatt main-event fights
www.mnmmanews.com

MINNEAPOLIS --Some questionable calls -- by referees and a cage-side doctor -- hampered an otherwise solid event Saturday night at "Havoc at the Hyatt 2." Both main event fights ended in controversy, and the local fighters came out on the wrong end of those tough calls.

In the evening's final fight, Augsburg wrestling sensation Marcus LeVesseur squared off against veteran Jay Buck of Illinois. LeVesseur looked good in the first round, using his wrestling to keep himself in good position and doing plenty of damage with strikes.

But the tide turned in the second period. LeVesseur appeared to be slowing down to start the round, but Buck shot for a takedown, which LeVesseur stuffed. "The Prospect" overpowered Buck and ended up in his full guard. Continued

Laying down The Big Hurt

Nick Kirk is a 2001 Prior Lake High School graduate. He was a standout high school wrestler who went on to wrestle collegiately for the Gophers.
Kirk finished fourth in Class AAA at 135 pounds during his junior year of high school and improved to third place at 140 as a senior. He also placed fifth at 119 as a sophomore.
Kirk was recruited by the Gophers and wrestled there for one season at 141 pounds. During the second half of his freshman season, Kirk got mono, and he never returned to the wrestling team. He also left school and started working immediately, building highway and prison fences.
After years away from competitive sports, a friend eventually talked Kirk into signing on as an assistant wrestling coach at Minneapolis North. He enjoyed it, but it also showed Kirk just how out of shape he was. Continued

Jesse Kelley

“Golden” Caleb Truax (15-0-1, 9 KOs) stayed unbeaten Friday night in Saint Paul, MN by winning a unanimous decision over veteran Antwun Echols (32-13-4, 28 KOs). Truax controlled the first three rounds with thudding combinations to the head and body. Echols got himself into the fight during the middle rounds, wearing on Truax with uppercuts and body shots in clinches and on breaks. Echols was competitive throughout but looked happy to just be competitive as he mostly looked to land a fight ending punch. Truax was able to stay a step ahead of Echols each round with combination punches. Scores read 97-93, 99-91, 98-92 in favor of Truax. Continued
